Confessions of a Design Freak...Welcome to My Real Estate and Interior Design World!

Updated: Jan 31

Blogging all about West Michigan Real Estate, Interior Design, and Home Renovations!

Hi there! I'm Becky Vandenbroek and this is my very first blog post for my site! I live in Ada, Michigan with my daughter Lola, husband Nate, and 2 pugs (Diggy and Jimmy). I also have 3 stepsons that are all older and out of the house. My husband owns a local design+build company called Hygge Design+Build. It's pronounced "who-guh" and is a Scandinavian word that means coziness and warmth (to us anyway). I am the lead designer there and Nate is the GC. We have been designing and building custom homes for the public since 2020 and for ourselves since 2012.

I started my real estate career in 2000 when I earned my REALTOR® designation and then went back in 2013 to earn my Broker's license. At the time I had been helping my builder dad with designing spec homes and then listing them. I left that world briefly for a career change into medicine but now have circled back to my real estate/design/build passion. I feel honored to be able to share my unique skill set with clients. Being from the design+build world it only made sense to start branching back out into real estate.

Some of the "perks" by working with me include:

  1. EXPERIENCE & TEAM: as an Associate Broker I have added knowledge and education about the real estate industry. When you decide to work with me you are also working with my team of experienced local individuals who know how to get a deal done (title company, home inspector, lender, reno crew, additional support staff from Five Star Real Estate).

  2. ACCESS TO MY RENOVATION CREW: this comes in handy for my sellers who want to do some minor renovations before listing OR my buyers looking for a home that has massive reno appeal or may just need a few minor tweaks. I can offer up estimates and schedule any reno needs that you may have when it comes to your existing or future home.

  3. PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO: I work with photographers who specialize in home photography as well as styling your photo shoot. As a designer, I am on location with my photographer making sure that every last little detail is addressed.

  4. MARKETING: in addition to offering open houses and professional home/video photography, I also leverage all of my social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) to provide maximum exposure to your property. You'll even see me give a personal home tour of your property highlighting all of its cool features (if there are none I can help you with that as well).

  5. INTERIOR RENDERINGS: sometimes for marketing purposes I will include renderings showing what spaces could look like after a renovation. This is very helpful for my sellers who may have an awkward floor plan or kitchen that needs updating. I create the new design and include that with the listing packet for the home. It helps potential buyers easily visualize what the space could be (and I can give an estimate on the reno costs).

  6. INTERIOR DESIGN/STAGING: I help sellers with staging and interiors to make sure their home is in tip-top shape before listing. You'll receive a free design consultation with all of my recommendations for your home. My buyers also receive a free design consultation on the purchase of their new home. Whether it's needing help with furniture placement or picking out new tile/flooring, I am here to help!

  7. LOCAL AREA KNOWLEDGE: I grew up in West Michigan and currently live in Ada where I specialize in the Ada, Cascade, Forest Hills, and East Grand Rapids markets. I recently acquired a second office located in the Saugatuck/Douglas area. I love spending time out there in the summer so it only made sense to start focusing on fun properties in that area!

I wanted to come up with a top 10 list but 7 is my lucky number so I am stopping there!

And to circle back around to those home are some BEFORE + AFTER home renovation projects that I have done over the last few years. I always tell my buyer clients to consider a renovation if they cannot find exactly what they want when looking for a home.
